As the bloodletting of newsrooms persists at a rapid pace, in-depth news coverage has become reduced to a 140-character headline. With the newspaper providing a mirror to society these fractured headlines inevitably become a metaphor for America. Weakened by draconian budget cuts and restrained by economic stagnation, the loud bark of the truth is now under threat. This comes at a time when there has never been a greater need for accountability as unregulated free-market capitalism has eroded into social and moral bankruptcy in a quest for endless profits by any means necessary. When the truth is blurred by lies and misinformation, perception becomes reality and all is lost.
